STATEMENT

❝My language navigates between contemporary art, illustration, and documentation. In my practice, I develop poetic and utilitarian content aimed at different audiences. My production addresses social suffocation, hierophany, intervention, and pilgrimage of public space. I work in ceramics, documentation, photography, graphics, and painting. In all of them, I explore symbolic lyricism in their processes, materials, and representations. I flow between the conflict of my intention and the desire for the image through adaptability, accident, and error. I bear witness to the perceptively invisible in humanity and the poetics behind the signs❞.   —F.J-G.

Federico Jordán-Gómez is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. Thirty five years of career as an internationally recognized illustrator back-up his artistic production in ceramics, graphics, installation, painting, perfomance, and photography.
Jordán-Gómez focuses in meditations over broad topics like power (crowns, knights, horses, cars,) spirituality (religious symbols), and social suffocation.
Lately, Jordán-Gómez has been occupied in the Mexican Northeastern desert, where he makes giant drawings, interventions and performances, documented in video and photography. Also he has collected different soils, seeds and oxids from the desert to use them as pigments for his work using commercial, found objets, or recycled materials from hardware stores.
In ceramics, Jordan creates ludic figures in which reflects his beliefs about the hierophany of objects. Deep searches into the poetry and semiotics within imagery are present in his work.
His illustration artwork have been published in The New Yorker, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Stanford University, Tufts University, Business Week, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Letras Libres, among other publications. He has collaborated on academic editions of the School of Visual Arts in New York, and his artwork has been exhibited in national and international galleries and museums.
Jordán-Gómez is an epigone of José Salat Figols from the Antigua Academia de San Carlos.
